1. Why does the World need bilingual children (Purpose of the project)

Our world is now a globalized world. The political, economic and academic relationships between the countries and their people have reduced the distances and have made possible the interaction between people and information pertaining to other languages. Now is much common to study in a foreign  university or to work in a international company, as well as the index of immigration has grown. So it is necessary the new generations speak in more than one language and the scientific investigations has revealed the most appropriate age for learn a new language is the "critical period" (Birner, 2013). The "critical period" is the period covered by  the ages from birth to puberty.

The public education in Colombia has, as one of its study areas, one foreign language, English language, which is taught in every educative institution, even from preschool. This English education is regulated by a official document given by the National Ministry of Education (MEN). That official document is Guía No. 22 Estándares Básicos de Competencias en Lenguas Extranjeras: Inglés. We are going to examine this official document (aims, methods, and more) to the light of the investigations in the field of lenguage education and bilingualism in children.

The introduction of this project is taken from my final project of Campos de la Investigación Pedagógica in which I am researching about Raising Bilingual Children.
